Welcome to AMMUN
We, the Secretariat of AMMUN'11,
would like to bid you a warm welcome
on behalf of all members of the
AMMUN team. This year's conference
is scheduled to take place between
the 26th of October and the 31st of
October 2011. AMMUN has become an
important tradition for our school,
in which we aim to provide the best
experience for local and
international delegates.
The Model United Nations is student
simulation of the actual United
Nations. It provides a venue for
politically aware students to
experience the process of
international decision-making. Our
conference will host approximately
450 delegates from, we trust,
various schools in the Middle East,
Asia, Africa, Europe, and the
Americas.
AMMUN'11 will include two General
Assemblies (GAs), an Economic and
Social Council (ECOSOC), a Security
Council (SC), an International Court
of Justice (ICJ), a Human Rights
Commission (HRC), an Advisory Panel
(AP), a Disarmament Commission and
our latest addition the Environment
Commission (EC). Additionally, we
will be conducting several MUN
workshops, producing a daily MUN
newspaper and entertaining guest
speakers. A committee has also been
established to carry on the
tradition of the “Hands-on
Experience” activity, which was
first introduced by the 2004
Secretariat.
AMMUN acknowledges the importance of
the environment therefore the
conference will be green. AMMUN is
one of the first MUN conferences in
the region and in the world to do
this and as a leader of innovation
over the past 10 years hopes that
other conferences will follow suite.
It is of vital importance that we
take these first steps towards a
greener, cleaner world to fight
environmental degradation in all of
its forms.
Each year, AMMUN adopts a theme for
its conference. This year we have
chosen the theme of “Youth a
catalyst for reform”. From our
knowledge of history and current
affairs in the region, we have
noticed that the youth are becoming
vessels of change. For example, the
youth of Tunisia and Egypt were the
main catalysts in the revolution
that brought down two longstanding
dictatorships. It is the first time
in history that the young generation
harnesses its joint potential in
order to demand its rights, and work
together, using social media
technologies, towards achieving
widespread change. Although
political leaders today will be held
accountable throughout history for
the decisions they make, the
policies they adopt, and the actions
they take regarding a certain
question, but it is the youth that
we recognize will be responsible for
dealing with the consequences of
current politics, and while they
wait anticipating these
consequences, they can also adopt a
greater level of foresight, enabling
them to predict future conflicts;
subsequently make the necessary
reforms in order to avoid these
future conflicts.
It is our great pleasure to announce
that we have been granted official
affiliation from The Hague Model
United Nations (THIMUN), and we
shall work hard to maintain the high
standards of this conference.
Thank you for your interest in our
conference. We hope that your school
will be able to join us in Amman in
2011, and please feel free to come
to us with inquiries your school may
have regarding the conference. We
look forward to welcoming you to
AMMUN!
